Event Description:
The Rites of Passage tournament is designed to build and develop the young talent of future competitors in the sport of Jiu Jitsu. By focusing on White, Grey, and Yellow belts, we aim to create a safe and supportive environment where young athletes can gain valuable competition experience, improve their skills, and prepare for the larger stage of Jiu Jitsu tournaments.

Registration Fees:  
Early Registration: $30 (ends February 8, 2025).
Regular Registration: $40 (February 9, 2025, and onward).

Match Format:
Double Elimination Bracket: Competitors are guaranteed at least two matches.
Match Duration: 2 minutes ages 5-7, 3 minutes ages 8-12, 4 minutes ages 13-17

Rules: 

Illegal Techniques:  
For the safety of all participants, the following moves are prohibited:

1. All leg/foot attacks, including triangle when the opponent crosses their feet in back control.  
2. Guillotine choke with or without the arm inside, Peruvian necktie, neck crank techniques, anaconda choke, d’arce choke, and any arm triangle variation.  
3. Slams from a closed guard.  
4. Wrist locks.  
5. Omoplatas.  
6. Scissor takedowns.  
7. Calf and biceps slicers.  
8. Pulling the head in a triangle.  
9. Ezekiel choke from any position.  
10. Kidney lock.  
11. Suplex.  
12. Jumping into guard.  
13. Groin stretch.  
14. Knee ripping.  
15. Single leg with the head outside.  
16. Neck cranks.  
17. Triangle using the legs from any position without the opponent’s arm in.


Age Divisions and Weight Classes:

Age Divisions: Based on the year of birth:  
Toddler: 2019-2020  
Kindergarten: 2017-2018  
Youth: 2015-2016  
Pre-Teen: 2013-2014  
Jr. Teen: 2011-2012  
Teen: 2009-2010  
Juvenile: 2006-2008 (17 and Under)

Weight Classes: Competitors will be grouped into weight categories to ensure fairness and safety. Specific weight divisions will be announced upon registration.

Kids Weight Classes (Up to 15 Years Old)

Weights include the athlete's weight with the Gi on:

  1. Rooster: 36.4 lbs
  2. Light Feather: 45.2 lbs
  3. Feather: 55.1 lbs
  4. Light: 63.9 lbs
  5. Middle: 72.8 lbs
  6. Medium Heavy: 81.6 lbs
  7. Heavy: 90.4 lbs
  8. Super Heavy: 99.2 lbs
  9. Ultra Heavy: No weight limit

Juvenile Weight Classes (16–17 Years Old)

Weights include the athlete's weight with the Gi on:

  1. Rooster: 118.0 lbs
  2. Light Feather: 129.0 lbs
  3. Feather: 141.1 lbs
  4. Light: 152.1 lbs
  5. Middle: 163.1 lbs
  6. Medium Heavy: 174.8 lbs
  7. Heavy: 185.9 lbs
  8. Super Heavy: 196.9 lbs
  9. Ultra Heavy: No weight limit

House Rules and Code of Conduct:

To maintain a positive and respectful atmosphere, all participants, coaches, and spectators are expected to adhere to the following:

1. Hygiene: All competitors must have clean uniforms and trimmed nails. Good hygiene is essential for safety and respect.  

2. Sportsmanship: Coaches, students, and spectators must demonstrate good sportsmanship at all times. This is an opportunity to model positive behavior for the youth.

3. Respect: Show respect to referees, opponents, and staff at all times. Arguments, excessive complaining, or disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated.
